Record Catch or Sustainable Reward
£1 million, 2 million tonnes and 4 million mackerel from two tows at sea. It is understandable that crews like to catch as many fish as they possibly can in the most efficient way possible. The bank manager probably appreciates such commitment.
In our ever more environmentally sensitive world, an even greater sense of achievement could come from and award for the most sustainable catch. Things to be considered for such an award could include, by catch, discard rate, energy use at sea, economic and socioeconomic impact, safety, ecological impact and value added.
