Inspired hope for future value.

Inspired hope for future value.

There were many positive news stories published in Fishing News 2nd March 2007. Does this indicate a turning point for the fishing industry and are the lessons of 20 years or so, leading to a positive re assessment of the natural living assets around Britain’s’ coastline?

Peterhead Tonnage is reported as being down 23%, but more significantly the value of landings has increased by 15%. Also reported, DEFRA are establishing a long term planning cycle, nephrops in Torridon are harvested in a way that protects the fishery for future generations and there is an environmentally friendly suggestion to utilise by catch as fertilizer. (without encouraging deliberate by catch!) A further report suggests that Cod stocks are recoverable and a suggestion that the Crown Estate is under pressure to review its management strategy to assess how to get the best value form its natural living assets.

Be inspired, to deliver a fully sustainable fishing industry!

Yours sincerely
